Kennel Cough
What are the symptoms of kennel cough?
Symptoms of canine kennel cough (tracheobronchitis) or similar upper respiratory infections may include: fever, nasal discharge, conjunctivitis, sneezing, and a harsh dry cough that sounds like the animal has something caught in their throat. Although by itself, kennel cough is not a serious disease it can lead to pneumonia.
If your dog has a dry wet cough, the natural Pets C&C may work better. If your dog has the canine influenza virus (canine flu), we recommend giving both the natural organic herbal Pets C&C AND Tossa-K (formerly Kennel-Koff) remedies. The Pets C&C soothes the throat and cough (like Formula 44D or Robitussin for people) and the Tossa-K is a natural antibiotic to fight the upper respiratory bacterial infection.
Are canine kennel cough, canine influenza virus, and/or other respiratory infections contagious?
Canine kennel cough (tracheobronchitis) and similar pet upper respiratory infections are highly contagious. Pet upper respiratory infections are easily spread amongst susceptible animals housed in close confinement, e.g. veterinary hospitals, kennels, shows, parks, or anywhere there is a large gathering of dogs, cats, birds, horses, etc. Stress, and extremes of ventilation, temperature, and humidity increase susceptibility to and severity of upper respiratory infections.
The cough can last up to 6 weeks, but using the Tossa-K (aka Kennel-Koff) treatment the cough usually stops within 48 to 72 hours. However, you must continue to treat for 7 to 10 days. If the cough persists longer than 5 days and you have not seen much of an improvement, there may be other factors to consider. The Canine Flu or allergies are the most common.
Canine flu can mimic kennel cough. Do not confuse kennel cough with the canine flu. Symptoms are similar, except the canine flu exhibits a discharge from the eyes or nose and exhibits a wet congested cough.
If you are not sure what your pet has, it is perfectly safe to use both Tossa-K (antibiotic) and Pets C& C (cough suppressant) together.
