Thorvin kelp is produced in a pristine environment close to the Arctic Circle. Thorvin kelp is geothermically dried under low temperatures that keep the vitamins, minerals, and enzymes intact.
Thorvin carefully selects and harvests the finest sea vegetation from around the world. Thorvin Kelp is harvested from Northwest Iceland on the edge of the Artic Circle. These kelps beds were chosen for their nutrient content, clean growing site and sustainability of harvest. The cold, clean waters of this area offer the perfect conditions for growing. Thorvin Kelp is dried near the harvest site, so the kelp does not lose any of the nutrients in transport. The kelp is geothermically dried at low temperatures to protect the minerals, vitamins and beneficial phytonutrients.
Thorvin is deeply committed to being environmentally, economically, and socially responsible – for nearly three decades Thorvin has implemented harvesting practices to promote sustainability and protect the aquatic biodiversity of the kelp fields where they harvest.
Pure ocean marine algae seaweed from the world’s cleanest and richest sea waters, Thorvin kelp contains 60 minerals, natural vitamins and other health factors. Thorvin icelandic kelp is 100% organic and complies with the USDA NOP organic feed requirements. Thorvin is the highest quality kelp available. We have tried and compared Norwegian and Acadian kelp meals and neither contain the high percentages of vitamins, minerals, micro nutrients, and amino acid that Thorvin kelp does.

Who should not take kelp?Common Q. asked on February 4, 2025
Rabbits should not consume kelp. Also, excessive kelp consumption can be problematic due to concentrated iodine content which poses serious risks to your thyroid health. Research clearly shows that both hyperthyroidism and hypothyroidism can develop from overusing kelp products, particularly supplements. Protecting your thyroid function means moderating your kelp intake.

Mix in feed at 1 to 2% of grain ration depending on the species. Icelandic kelp can also be fed free choice, alone or with salt or top dressed.
Cattle, sheep & goats tend to self-regulate free-choice consumption of Icelandic kelp to levels consistent with recommended rates. In some cases, animals will consume larger than normal quantities, but this binge typically only lasts 30-60 days, depending on the animal’s mineral status. If higher consumption continues beyond 60 days, mix kelp with salt, one-to-one, to reduce intake & consult your nutritionist. When feeding Icelandic kelp free-choice, provide one covered mineral feeder for every 25-30 cows & every 40-50 sheep or goats. Also make sure animals have access to salt & clean water.
Reduce rates if your feed or feed supplement already meets iodine requirements. If you have questions about your animals health or nutritional status, consult your veterinarian or nutritionist.

House Plants & Container Boxes: Use 1 heaping teaspoon per inch of pot diameter. Gently work kelp into the soil surface being careful not to disturb the feeder roots. For large containers, use 2 heaping tablespoons per 100 square inches of soil surface.
For transplanting sprinkle bottom of hole with a small amount of kelp & work into the soil prior to planting. Kelp improves root development (mitosis).
Biologically Active or Vigorous Soil: Use 1lb per 100-120 sq ft.
Medium Fertility Soil: Use 1lb per 75-90 sq ft.
Poor Soil or Low Fertility Soil: Use 1lb per 50-60 sq ft.
Spread evenly on the surface of the soil under drip line of leaves. Gently work into the soil surface being careful not to disturb the feeder roots. Make application in early Spring when flush of new growth appears. Reapply midway through the growing season. Then again in the Fall. Gardens in warm climates may require more frequent applications.
Compost: 10lbs of Icelandic kelp per ton.
